Environment

Scandi exports a large portion of all copiers purchased for reuse in its markets in Asia, Africa, Middle East, Pacific and Latin America. A portion of the copiers are harvested for useful parts and components for reuse. Obsolete and beyond repair copiers are fully recycled by ISO 14001 certified recyclers close to Scandi’s logistic centres.

Scandi sources copiers cross Europe and transport them to its Logistic Centers in Sweden and Hungary for processing. Scandi strives to use the most environmentally sound transportation option such as trailer-on-train or river-barge when possible to reduce Scandi’s carbon footprint.

To formalize Scandi’s environmental commitment, Scandi was in 2006 ISO 14001  certified by Qvalify AB, a process for the control and the continuous improvement of Scandi’s environmental performance. Among other things, it enables Scandi to:

  • identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products and services.
  • to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements.
  • to continuously improve its environmental performance.

Scandi’s operations at all its locations are fully compliant to the European Union WEEE-directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

“WEEE is a complex mixture of materials and components that because of their hazardous content, and if not properly managed, can cause major environmental and health problems. Moreover, the production of modern electronics requires the use of scarce and expensive resources (e.g. around 10% of total gold worldwide is used for their production). To improve the environmental management of WEEE and to contribute to a circular economy and enhance resource efficiency the improvement of collection, treatment and recycling of electronics at the end of their life is essential”.

The COreduction is obtained by Scandi’s business model of enhancing a second life of copiers by reusing and recycling photo copiers and thereby reducing Scandi’s Carbon footprint. In 2023 it amounted to a CO2 reduction of 16.100+ tons of CO2.

The CO2 generation is mainly caused by sea and land transportation of copiers where more sales/business means generating more CO2. In 2023 Scandi’s transportation needs amounted to a CO2 generation of 950+ tons of CO2

The CO2 balance (COgeneration and COreduction) is to Scandi’s advantage with a total reduction of Scandi’s Carbon Footprint  of close to 15.150 tons of CO2 in 2023! In other words – for every ton CO2 Scandi generates, Scandi reduces its Carbon Footprint 17 times!
